IAAA #9: The Three Ts Are Your Friends

February 16th, 2009 · No Comments ·

We’ve reached Day 9 of the I Am An Article series about repurposing your article marketing and we’re still going strong. Amazing, isn’t it?

Would you have thought that a simple article could have such incredible potential??

If you’re like me, you probably saw articles as one thing you could do and one way you could do it in your online promotional campaign. That, of course, was before we stopped looking at them the same ol’ way and started thinking of different ways to look at them.

Seeing those diffferent ways encourages the exploration of other creative thinking, which leads to more excitement, which leads to more fun! When work is fun, the boredom’s done.  And loving your business is what it’s really all about, right?

I hope this series has got you thinking, sparking and most importantly, DOING.  Seeing a good idea, recognizing a good idea (”Hey, that’s a good idea!!”) and planning to use a good idea (Got it right here on my list…”) are not and never can be a substitute for USING a good idea. Some methods work better for some than others, and there’s only one way to know which is which.

Use the Test, Track, Tweak tactic. You’ll notice I didn’t say that other “T” word, try. It too often means attempting it once or twice without any plan or strategy, which doesn’t do a darn thing for you.

Test by applying it preferably for a whole month. Contrary to popular opinion, things don’t happen at light speed on the Net. Everything takes some time at least and results often don’t reveal themselves right away. Those 30 days will give things time to happen and be noticed.

Track by using tracking IDs for each and every method you use. You can do this by attaching a number or short identifier to the end of each URL. For instance, if posting an article to EzineArticles.com, you could add =EZA01 at the end of the link contained in that article, like this:

http://www.myproductsite.com/myproduct (the sales page of your product)

then becomes

http://www.myproductsite/myproduct=EZA01 (the link you place in the article that directs the visitor to your product page)

That unique tracking URL’s clickthroughs  will be displayed in your webhost’s statistics area, so you’ll know how many clicked that link. You can also find out how many of them were buyers!

Tweak little changes as you go along whenever you notice something positive going on – a spike in clickthroughs for an article about a particular topic or in a specific format. Post a similar one in the same place and observe its performance. The key to good tweaking is making one small change and watching how it affects results. Does changing the headline to read “to” instead of “for” make a difference? Is it a positive or negative change? Whenever a change produces more positive results, use that one as your “base”. It’s called “beat the control” and it’s both fun and helpful. Try…I mean…DO it and see!
